Likely causes:
Plastic seals/ welds/ joins/ gaskets no longer working. This can be anything from a serious electrical risk to a minor nuisance. Do not use until it has been checked. If there is evidence of water, water staining or limescale on or near any electrical circuitry, then the item is dangerous and must be discarded.
